snorkel question
The recent flooding due to the heavy rain got me thinking, my understanding is that snorkel is installed to allow the car to breath in water, but what about the other car parts, i mean electrical parts and doesnt water get in through the exhaust ?

Snorkel is installed for so many reasons. One of them is breathing in the water. Others are:
- Get clean air to the engine and avoid getting sand to the air filter.
- Cold air intake. The air that the car gets now is already hot because of the engine heat. The snorkle takes the air from outside, cold and clean and send it to the engine.
You will not use your car as a submarine when you have a snorkel. The snorkel only stops the water from getting inside the engine through the air system. Electrical parts should be isolated from water as well. When you take your car to a good car wash, you normally wash the engine with a strong stream of water, nothing happend to it. so it is normal to get water to the engine parts.

if u plan on submerging your car , not only isolate the electrics & your battery terminals, but usually for your deep sea diving , you're also going to want to have a switch to turn off your electric radiator fans , make sure all your seals are tight & relocate your breather hoses for eg. your axle breather hoses to a safe area under the hood...
i'm not really a fan of snorkels..they do look cool though...
many people , many opinions...take it easy through the water & u should be fine
