Totally agree Mac..we are all guilty of it!!
there are 2 types of ISA "Inshallah" one is I don't know yet, and the other is a confirmation "if God is willing" once you get used to hearing them in conversations, you will start realizing the difference.... :D

regards...ISA...

Boss, Yes I got it. But in some trips we had the cases of many stucks in a convoy of more that 12 cars (statistics: more nos of cars>>>>higher probability for more stucks and waitings hours ;-). Peace

Blackpoints or not blackpoints?

Post by Xof » Sat Jan 10, 2009 11:35 am

i don't know if what i will suggest is acceptable in the philosophy of the club, but it may help to make people more responsible.

Why don't we have a Black Point system. They would be given for not respecting committment in signing in a trip and not coming repeatedly (for bad reason), or safety violation, or littering in desert... whatever does not respect the siprit and rules of the club...

After X black points, you would be downgraded for X weeks. You would not be able to access the trips as per your level which will be very frustrated...

If you have blackpoints as newbie, then you will have to wait longer to be upgraded, etc...

It does not need to be public and can be dealt directly between the Committee and the members : no storm on the forum...

Again, this is just an idea. It is a pity to reach this kind of measures as respect for the marshalls should be something natural. But with the grow of the club, maybe we have to implement some "incentive" rules...

open for discussion.

blackpoints
the club i think have or had this a long time ago, but not sure if they used it,
i myself think it is a good idea and should be used against all levels of members in the club, from anits to marshals,

but to do this then the rules, regulations and safety expectations will need to put up clearly and any changes updated so everyone can read and understand, [then no reason for i didnt know that rule]

but i agree with you great idea,

all the best

A question of respect

Post by Pierre » Sun Jan 11, 2009 10:42 am

Blackpoints, penalty, downgrading etc... I am not sure it is the correct way to get any improvement. A family club practice is not a question of punishment.

I consider that more as a lack of respect to the Marshal organizing and the rest of the group to not show-up at meeting time without calling. It is similar for the late show-up, all the trips mention meeting hh.00 leaving at hh.15 sharp, but many people are late with or without calling the marshal.

It is especially not an acceptable to not be respectfull of the effort of people (marshal mainly) doing all that on a voluntary base (exemple given by Mpenzi).

I think this question of respect, should go through remarks / Private messages that Trip leaders / more senior people (by age, or club hierarchy) could make to the late comers / no-shower. Intent would be just to let them know that x people have been waiting for 30minutes.

The same thing can be applied for any type misconduct or bad group behaviour (cancellation, littering....).

Respecting others, respecting environment : all start from that ...

I will throw in my 2 fills.

I agree with Pierre on the whole punishment factor, this is a family club, not an occupation or boot camp course. I do understand that if people are not fully commited then it is annoying when they say they will be there and then don't show. But at the same time, you can't punish somebody for something if you aren't really losing out on anything other than time.
I must say though that if people may not be able to make a trip or will have trouble getting there on time then they shouldn't register for the trip.

So in short, if you say you'll be there. then be there. Other wise leave space for willing participants. But Marshals please, don't threaten people with black marks and such, thats not the spirit of this club is it. :D

Thanks.

For me it's easy... in the trip post it says: meeting 12:00 / leaving 12:15....

So just leave at 12:15... if somebody is late... too bad!

Unless the member that is late phones the trip leader to inform him BEFORE the meeting time... then it's the leaders decision if the trip will wait or not.

Just my thoughts... we all have a watch and know how to use it!

And as for people taking up a spot without being sure to attend, when there are people on a waiting list... that's just anti social behavior... so don't do that!

I fully agree with Heinz, if the person is late, leave. I also believe it's always the same people making the same mistake.

Full agree with Heinz as well...I am sure, after few trips everyone will know that SHARP...means really...SHARP! If you need my opinion further, I believe that, who is late...is late for the whole trip! Just to think loud

What a good, clear and sharp proposal, I vote for it.

It is no on the full repressive as suggested earlier, it is not idealist as my proposal, it is straight and efficient.

or here is a sugestion,
with the members who write ISA, will confirm later, etc etc,
would it be wiser to put them on the waiting list and the ones who are in on the list,
just a thought and then the members who can make it, wont miss out,
and i agree with heinz,
a call is all it takes to the leader, and time is everything,

Thank you for your comments, Black points do not apply to being late for trips.
Quite simple... as per original post. Only register for trips if you can actually make it.
Be on time for meeting point.
Phone trip leader if you cannot make it.
DO NOT TURN UP WITHOUT REGISTERING, YOU WILL BE NOT ALLOWED TO JOIN.
